Johanna Ortiz has become the Colombian designer of the current moment. The designer began studying fashion design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale in Florida and graduated with honors before returning home to Colombia to begin her namesake brand. Since the creation of her label, Ortiz has become a sort of fashion ambassador for her home country, developing an exquisite aesthetic with signature ruffles and off the shoulder silhouettes that perfectly captures the spirit of Latin America, femininity, and sensuality.
Ortiz’s excellent use of vibrant colors and feminine style has proven commercially successful, earning her a loyal clientele base and a recognizable brand worldwide. 2014 was the year that she really began to take off, showcasing at Colombiamoda in Medellin and Círculo de la Moda in Bogota, two of Colombia’s biggest fashion weeks. Since then, she has been invited to showcase her collections in placed from the White House in the U.S. Capital, to the United Nations in New York. She has recently expanded into new collections, creating her bridal wear debut with an exclusive collection for e-retailer Moda Operandi, taking the label global. Today her pieces are stocked at some world’s top retailers including Neiman Marcus, Lane Crawford, Bergdorf Goodman and Net-a-Porter. Despite her worldwide success, Ortiz continues to remain humble and proud of her heritage, which has always had a strong influence on her creative aesthetic. She hopes to continue giving back to her community by placing a high priority on working with women, as well as indigenous communities in Colombia through her label.
